This novel follows a cast of characters in the Glendale Park Zoo in Nashville, Tennessee after the first World War. And when I say cast of characters, I mean cast! it took me while to get used to the writing style of the author and the transitions between characters. I appreciated that the historical novel took on real issues and did not sugar coat the past in a way that some historical fiction tends to - was not all rainbows and sunshine that's for sure. Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken was one of my favorite movies as a child so I suppose I was hoping for the novel to focus more on the horse diving aspect, but alas it did not. This is definitely a character driven book, which is fine if you love a good character development story. Unfortunate for me I was hoping for more action and mystery to come forth. I do really like the cover and title though. Mediocre read for me.
