I was so excited to read When Two Feathers Fell from the Sky by Margret Verble! This one came to meet at the perfect time following a few reads set in the 1960s. I was looking for something historical, but a new period that I hadn’t read about before. Enter Two.

In 1926 at the Glendale Park and Zoo, we meet an amazing Native American woman named Two Feathers. Two is a performer that used to work in a Wild West show before she got a job at the Glendale Park and Zoo. The book touches on the fall of the Wild West Shows as well as Vaudeville and brings up the fact that steady work became a hard thing for performers like Two to find. Interesting stuff that I never really realized.

This novel is a combination of historical fiction and magical realism. It touches on themes of trauma, found family, and racism. I thought it was delightfully unique and really made me think and learn.
