This was a stunning debut by Gina Wilkinson. It was powerful, and it has continued to stay with me. Her unique perspective as a foreign correspondent in Baghdad was a treat to read. The author beautifully crafts the stories of three women, Ally, Raina, and Huda. Throughout the novel, there is a lot of suspense and mystery that surrounds these three women and the intricate way their lives are intertwined. Themes of friendship and survival resonated throughout the pages of this book. I'm so grateful I had the opportunity to read this book. It truly transported me to a different world. At times, it was hard to digest some of what I was reading, but that is the stark reality of how life was there under the regime. I would certainly recommend this to others as it provides rich details of the region. Thank you to Kensington Books and Bookishfirst for a free copy. All opinions are my own.
