From the first pages, it is obvious that this will be a gritty and intense book. Especially given the setting. The initial character portrayed, Huda, lives a hard life. She works for an embassy and has police officers beating down her door. As a working woman in Baghdad, it’s clear that she must fight for herself. The writing is already beautiful and gripping. I can tell this is going to be a good but intense book.
