Wilkinson writes the story of three women who live in Baghdad during Saddam Hussein's rule. While what they endure is unique to where and when they are, there are so many relatable aspects of their lives, showing just how alike we all are - Rania wanting to do whatever she can to protect her child; Huda, walking a dangerous path to keep her family safe; and Ally, who's desperately trying to keep her secrets. I read a lot of historical fiction and I love that this one is set more recently, as this is a a place and time we don't often get to read about.
