Feast Your Eyes on this cover for just a moment! When I saw the cover of What Big Teeth by Rose Szabo, I knew I had to read this book. It’s beautiful and intriguing. This is a debut gothic fantasy novel that is completely out of my normal genre. I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I started reading it. Let’s just say I ravaged this one very quickly and loved every minute of it!

Eleanor Zarrin returns home from boarding school. She has done something horrible at her school. When she returns home, she finds her family a bit unique and feels like she doesn’t fit in. I mean, how would you feel if your relatives turned into something that they don’t appear to be on the outside? Her Grandma Persephone passes away during a conversation with Eleanor and tells Eleanor that she is now in charge of the Zarrin home. Eleanor has no idea how to save her family. She invites her Grandmere to come visit and help her. But her Grandmere isn’t the woman that Eleanor thought she was. Eleanor soon discovers the history of the Zarrin family; and what a history it is! She devises a plan to keep her family intact. Will it work? And how will things turn out for this cast of characters? You will meet Miklos, Arthur, Margaret, Luma and Rhys as you get swept away in the story of their family.

This is a strange and eccentric read; yet I was captivated the entire time. I liked that the story contained LGBTQ representation. And if you allow yourself to be swept away in this fantasy; it contained some quite beautiful messages as well.
