I was initially drawn to this book just because of the cover art. I 100% judged a book by its cover and I was absolutely correct. Creepy mansion, outcast teen, supernatural creatures, mysterious history...this book checks a lot of boxes to make a really enjoyable read. I don't know that I'd classify it as "horror," but there were definitely some classic horror elements at play. I read the entire book in just a few sittings and the author dangles JUST ENOUGH hints to keep you guessing. The build-up was great, and I was satisfied with the outcome, though the ending did feel a little rushed. After 250+ pages of prep work, it just felt like it all got wrapped up in the last 15 pages or so. This didn't take away from my enjoyment of the story AT ALL, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who's looking for some supernatural goodness thrown in with their family drama.
