This is the story of Eleanor, teenager returning home after running away from boarding school, the boarding school she was sent away to and never allowed to go home from. Eleanor's family is a record-breaking assembly of curiosities. We've got some wolves, some water creature thing, a little witchcraft and tarot, and something else that we have to try to figure out. Naturally, there will be some chaos afoot when Eleanor pushes back into the family sphere.
The thing I love the most about this book is that it is unlike anything I have ever read before. I had so much fun reading and imagining the family/creature dynamic and figuring out the mysteries of Eleanor's family history. This is the kind of book that I imagine the author just had fun writing. It is so imaginative while also keeping good pacing and intrigue throughout the book.
I can see how some people won't be able to suspend disbelief long enough to follow the story, and honestly, how sad for them.
