Eleanor was sent away as a child by her grandmother, to boarding school. All communication to family was cutoff with no explanation. Something has happened to Eleanor at school that makes her decide to leave and head home. Her family lives in a small, secluded town where all the townsfolk avoid and somewhat fear her family. She's always known that her family is, different. As she returns and begins seeking answers, so many strange events, people and secrets are revealed. Each character is comprised of many layers, which are slowly peeled back throughout this book. While the beginning was a bit slow and I was confused about what exactly I was reading, I very much enjoyed where the story went. This is a gritty, mysterious tale of monsters but also, the strength of family bonds. Very atmospheric setting in a manor by the sea with so many witchy vibes.
