I'm not sure what to make of this book. It is really focused on the protagonist's perceptions of her family after seeing them for an unidentified length of time. It is as though she has never met these people before and merely harbors intense fear about them, as though she is not one of them. I'm sort of intrigued by the parallels to estrangement that I see, but there isn't much of anything happening in the book. The first look comprises what appears to be a full third of the book and consists mainly of detailed descriptions of people, conversations, and actions over the course of two days or so.
