It is trying to create a horror (possibly gothic) vibes and a mystery- setting of story a mysterious town, a castle/house (I am unclear but it is supposed to be this ominous place I think).The mystery what is she running from? What is she trying to hide? What is the family hiding? A horrific legacy? But I am not feeling it not connecting to the mystery. I only read a bit of first chapter because I knew immediately I was not into it so some of these questions probably were answered.
