I normally wouldn't give this book a second glance. The cover is horrendous and gives the impression of a cheesy, half-thrown-together story. The title isn't much better.
But the writing... wow. I'm surprised at how quickly I was drawn into a story that falls into multiple genres that I have zero interest and never read--fantasy, horror, gothic, and dark thriller. I'm utterly dumbfounded that I've been sucked in.
