Where do I start? This book has representation, dead dogs that come back to life, anguish, regret, triumph, bhutas, and magic. From the first page I was rooting for Kajal! This is a Frankenstein retelling kinda with an Indian mythology twist and it is so refreshing and did not disappoint at all. I will say that roughly the last 30% got kind of confusing for me but I think that would be easily solved with a glossary. I ended up using Goggle more than I care to admit and that sort of took away from the story because sometimes I fell into rabbit holes haha it is set up to be the first in a series and I have already added the untitled sequel to my tbr list :) it’s a 4.5 star (add that glossary and we’ve got a 5 star on our hands) There are so many terms in the book that don’t have enough background for readers that are not familiar with Indian mythology/culture so there is a disconnect. Once I understood what some of the terms were or implied I was able to connect better but it was a bit of work to get there and that’s what stops me from making it a solid 5!
