First of all, this is a young adult novel. It’s not usually the genre I go for, but I was drawn in by the relationship between our main characters. We have a main character who will walk to the ends of the earth for her sister, making questionable choices along the way, but sticking with them nonetheless. The opening scene shows Kajal breaking out of her own coffin, stealing her sisters body, and setting her sights on reincarnation.
The Indian mythology is rich and refreshing, such a fun change from the Greek and Egyptian mythology that I grew up with. The world is full of Indian creatures that create a feeling of surrealism as our sisters work through their journey of finding their identities, histories, and place in this world.
My four stars come from the YA genre and the fact that I may not reread this one. However, I will absolutely be recommending this to the young adults in my life, and looking forward to the next installment!
