I was drawn in by the cover of this book. It's beautifully macabre, which fits the description perfectly. This is an author that already lives on my shelves. Although I have yet to read any of those books. I think this title is a little more horror than dark fantasy, so I'll try to read the author's backlog on my shelf before picking this one up.
