After ACOTAR and devouring everything in Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse, I was looking for a new thrilling universe to delve into. And to be honest, I have been trying to read this since spring, but between a newborn and the slow pace of the beginning of this novel, it kept getting shelved.

Finally, about 40% in the pace and the journey begins. It was a real slog for me to get engrossed in this book, but, all of a sudden, I was lost and couldn’t put it down. 72 hours later and I’m buying the sequel, because I need to know how the journey ends and what becomes of the characters I have come to, conflictingly, love.

If you can stick through the slow beginning, which to be fair is just world building that is necessary for the full enjoyment of this work, it will be worth it at the end. Hafsah Faizal has created a wonderful world with so much more to explore and rich characters that I feel we have only scratched the surface of.
