Overall, I really liked this book. It has so many things that I love, with assassins, quests for magic, secrets, and more. However, the book fell a little flat with all of the hype it got. In no way am I saying it was a BAD book, I just don’t see what everyone else saw. The world and characters were very well-done, but the plot wasn’t that unique. The reason why I like assassins and quests for magic so much is because I see them all the time! We Hunt the Flame had great diversity and worldbuilding, but other than that, it just seemed like another YA fantasy novel. It was enough to keep me excited, but the story didn’t get me invested or entranced like others have. It felt like I had to push through the story to finish it, and obviously I’m not fond of that feeling. I really did like the book, and the hype is quite UNDERSTANDABLE, but it just wasn’t for me.
