Interesting But Too Long

I really liked this book as a whole. It had a really interesting world with such a cool history and the main characters were great with amazing chemistry, but I was confused for too much.

The writing was beautiful but it felt like the author was too focused on writing beautifully rather than having the plot continue at times. I could see this as a debut novel thing so I don’t hold it against the author / book too much but it was hard to stay focused on the story because of this. I read it as an audiobook and there would be moments where the main characters would think of something for so long I would think I missed something and go back. With that was the fact that it was a quest story which I love! This book, however, didn’t do anything different with the landscapes they came across. Everything was the same the whole journey until the end when some action finally occurs (other than the occasional minion coming over for a fight).

I was also confused by the world. I saw the map but I didn’t refer to it often (audiobook things) so I was confused as to how close places were and such.

The major highlights for me where the writing, the characters, the dynamics, and the world building. I had fun while reading it (once I got about 35-40% in because it had a slow build up that I understood but still wasn’t a fan of) so that definitely boosted my overall rating.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this book and I am looking forward to reading the second one!
