I had somewhat high hopes for this book, because a lot of my friends and mutuals have read it, and I know the book community as a whole adores it, and I was pretty happy with how much I liked it. I wasn't a huge fan of the romance especially in the beginning, but it grew on me towards the end. I wasn't expecting the found family aspect that we got on the island, so that was super cool, as that's my favorite trope pretty much of all time. I think the worldbuilding was super well done, well explained, and pretty interesting, especially with all the background information and history that Hafsah Faizal included. Also, I always appreciate a good map. The plot twists were well thought out and some of them were quite unexpected, and the cliffhanger! I'm definitely going to have to purchase the sequel, We Free the Stars, when it comes out, because I have to know what happens next.
