This book has everything in it that I am trying to share with my students- first of all, an author that isn't white and isn't male! Second, a culture and setting that is totally different from anything most of them have experienced. And third, strong and well-developed characters that will encourage them to keep reading and to get excited about this book. From this sample, I think that this book will be a great addition to my junior high classroom library. It is a book that I think both my students and I would enjoy reading and talking about. I am so pleased to see that a more diverse range of authors are being encouraged and promoted and I think this book, and the next one!, are great examples of enticing and engaging literature that will get everyone excited to read! The plot seems to be rich, the characters seem to be realistic, and the overall book seems fantastic!
