I read this one when it first came out and I don't really recall being thrilled. I don't remember it well at all but the author likes to sippy spoon feed us every emotion characters are having, and I felt like the pace was pretty slow for a YA. There was a hint of curse and darkness and fantasy but I kind of felt it was more like an adventure fiction for the most part.
