Hafsah Faizal has created a rich world in this book that jumps off the very first page. I love how I was thrown into that world from the beginning and found myself so intrigued by the lives of the two main characters--Zafira the Hunter and Nasir the Prince of Death. They both seem so complex and layered as characters, and I am eager to see what happens when their two stories overlap! What I appreciate even more about this book is that it isn't just magical, it is also poetic, as evidenced by this line on the first page: "Sunlight was always faint in the caliphate of Demenhur, because the sun didn’t know what to do with the snow that should be sand." Can't wait to read more of this book!
