I immediately liked the protagonist, Elizabeth Balsam, a reporter for the Detroit Free
Press. Sidetracked from working on her main story, Elizabeth meets a man and his son, who I suspect will take her investigative reporting in a direction she doesn’t see coming.

The central premise of the story, the 1967 race riots in Detroit, is intriguing, and the secondary characters’ roles remain unknown so far. There are misterious photos, family members up until now unknown, and, I’m sure, many conflicts to come.

I hope to be reinformed of this era in our nation’s history, one of which I only recall snippets, due to my own coming of age at that time. We all need o be reminded of the difficulties we faced coming into the country we are today, and We Hope for Things to Come will do just that for the readers.
