We hope for better things is one of the best books I've ever read. Bringing the civil war, the 60s and modern day America together in one novel is brilliant. I'm a person who believes everyone is equal no matter what. I work and know people who are racist and can't understand why they believe those things. I can't imagine what it was like for slaves trying to gain their freedom. What it must have been like to fight, in the same country, to free slaves. I'm happy that they were freed. Everyone has the right to their own lives and freedom.
I think anyone who enjoys historical fiction and girl power would enjoy reading this book. Very well written with a great variety of characters. Lots of love and history went into writing this book.
