This book is about racism, love, respect and how it has changed, or not, over time. This story follows three women that are from the same family that find themselves, for different reasons and at different time periods, living in the same house. They each have people they love and care deeply about that are of a different race. This story follows each woman through some of their experiences, one during the civil war, one during the 1960's and the other in present day. The reader sees how attitudes have been altered by time, but sometimes seeing how far we have yet to go. Even though the story changes time periods, it flows well. The writing is wonderful and the characters completely endearing. The only bad thing to say about this book is that I'm sorry I read it in January. I fear it may be my favorite of the year and that gives me nothing to look forward to.
