I was so thankful to receive this ARC. I had read the first chapter in a sneak preview and just knew that I would enjoy this book.

Erin Bartels wrote this book from two women's point of views in the past and one woman's point of view in the present. I can't say that any one character is the main character as they all feature quite heavily throughout the book. You actually come to love Elizabeth, Nora, and Mary. All three women have their flaws, as we all do, but their stories are full of love, hope, intrigue, conspiracy, forgiveness, and above all, survival.

Much of this story focused on the race riot in Detroit in 1967. I had never heard more than passing stories regarding these riots and after finishing this book, I made it a point to look into it more. I wrote the author on Twitter and she provided me with several links to read more about these riots.

I know a book has me hooked when I need to know more about the story or topic. The book ended but for me, it felt like I couldn't let it end. I had to do more research.

Thank you Mrs. Bartels for this fantastic read! And thank you Bookish First for offering this raffle.
