The cover is both inviting and foreboding. A nice farm but a long barren path way to it.
The same can be said for the excerpt. At first I was excited with the impression it was going to be a historical novel and a mystery, but then it goes darker with overcoming obstacles and racism and that puts a completely different tone on the book.
Having 'hope' in the title puts me off as it implies wishing and not action.
