My initial thoughts was that I liked the setting of the crowded, dingy restaurant where the characters met up. I could easily envision the atmosphere. The author is adept in giving good, descriptive insight into the nature of each character as well. Mr. Rich, Linden and Elizabeth were clearly defined in my mind as I read. I was very interested in the photos, and why Mr. Rich wouldn’t mail them; why he wanted Elizabeth to deliver them to Nora personally. I’m also intrigued by the interracial relationship between Mr. Rich’s uncle and Elizabeth’s great aunt, Nora. Then there’s mention of the 1960’s riots and possibly a crooked judge that Elizabeth’s interested in sneakily investigating. Many little interesting facets presented straight off that drew me right in. I also like the book’s cover. It looks mysterious and beckons for someone to enter and explore the house in the background.
