It just took a chapter to hook me on this story. Elizabeth Balsam is a white reporter in Detroit who likes to investigate and report on hot topics- both current and past. An older black gentleman (Mr. Rich) contacts her for a meeting. He has recovered a camera and photographs from the police from the 1960's riots. He wants to get them to someone named Nora Balsam and thinks Elizabeth can help. Elizabeth doesn't know who this is, and doesn't show real interest until she hears the photos are of the riots. She also feels a slight sympathy for the man, and does agree to see if she is related to Nora. She determines they are related and figures out a way to get ahold of her. And that's where the First Impression ends!
And I really want to know what happens next. The writing was engaging and promises a storyline that goes back in history. I also am curious as to how the relationships of the 3 people we've met will play out (Mr. Rich brought his Detroit Lions son with him to the meeting).
