Engaged by the end of the first paragraph

The opening scene in the hot dog stand is well written. The three characters who meet there are given enough depth in just a few pages to be interesting and people I want to know better. This character development continues in the rest of the first chapter. After just a few pages, I want to know their stories and how they are connected.
