This book contains short biographies about 30 women of color--many of them who refused to give up even when the odds were stacked against them. There are 181 pages of actual information in the entire book, along with a full-page color photo, so you can easily see that if you are looking for something more in-depth--this won't give you that; however, the author did a great job of choosing what basic information to include.
This would be a great book for middle and high school libraries as it provides enough of a background that it would benefit those looking for inspiration as well as students who need to choose someone to write a report about. Also keep in mind those National History Day competitions; this is a great starting point for assignments like that. I'd also recommend this because the stories that were chosen encourage people to "go high."
