My eyes are still starry with tears and awe. I am so sad to have finished this book because I already miss these characters (Avery is an amazing main character, one of my favorites that I've read in a while!) and the poetic descriptions that Jas Hammonds peppered into This book that made it read like hot chocolate on an autumn day. I just had these moments when reading that I had to pause and just reread certain lines because of how pretty it read. It felt like I could almost taste and smell the scents that was described.

The family secrets and the way we saw how hurt people hurt people, was so well done, especially when it comes after learning about the racial tragedies that were dealt with (when it came to Mama Letty and Ray). In saying that, I appreciated the chapters with the short backstories interspersed between the main story because it added so much history and relevance to the current issues going on with Avery and her matriarchal family trauma, especially near the end when we learn about the treasure trove of secrets surrounding their family.
