I wanted to like this book, but I just couldn’t connect with the characters. Things I liked - affirming LGBTQ+ teen romance and family reconciliation theme. Things I didn’t like - most characters were unlikeable to me, bratty and puckish teens and their female family members. Plus the dark ball drop at the end felt out of place to me.
We chose this book for one of our bookclubs. Our group was not the target audience (we are all women over age 40), but we are pretty broad readers. this just wasn't the book for us, but we could see a younger group of readers perhaps connecting with it more. It did lend to lots of discussion and opinion sharing though which was a positive. We liked the cover and felt it represented the main character well.
