This book is definitely one that will stick with me for a long time. The cast of characters were written beautifully and truly seemed like real people. I especially loved our main protagonist she was amazing and actually made smart decisions. This isn't a happy book but there's a lot of heart in it especially with the family and the way it deals with some harsh realities. I was also really impressed by the adorable love story between the two girls. It truly felt real and the author did a great job at showing much they truly cared about one another. The author masterfully weaves together a story that spans generations and the harsh realities of racism especially in the south. And does it an a way that doesn't feel like it's just traumatic for the sake of being traumatic. It handles a lot of tricky subjects but the book does it with grace. And I appreciated that the book allowed us to also have joyful moments.
