I liked the introduction of Avery, her parents, Mama Letty, Carole, and Simone. I'm interested to see how their stories intertwine - it's clear there's a lot of history between them. These first few chapters were significantly more depressing than I expected based on the cover, though, and I'm hoping things get a little happier soon.
