Semi sophisticated, read that, from the big city of DC, Avery and her folks travel to a tiny town in GA to help care for her ailing grandmother. Her mom doesn't seem interested in going back there and once Avery gets there, she senses the tension between her mom and grandmother, along with the neighbor Carole who had said come, the cancer is back.

The jive talk turns me off, the anger and mean talk made me want to stop reading entirely. YA is really not for me and in spite of the many aspects thrown in so far, body piercing, racism, elitism, violence in the home, Covid, etc., it appears there are many issues that will come up in this story.
