We are the Brennans was a great, messy family drama. I thought, reading the description, that Sunday Brennan was going to be a bratty socialite coming back to her family, but instead she's been deeply struggling with what led her to leave behind her family and run to the other side of the country. Her family members each have their own secrets and baggage, and they are deeply entwined with each other. I loved how much you can tell these characters care about each other- there is hurt and drama, but there is also a fierce love and connection. They know their imperfections and weaknesses, but find strength in each other.
I loved the way the author used multiple perspectives in this story- each perspective changing chapter started with a sentence the character had said at the end of the last chapter, and then we get to see what the context of that meant for them.
Tracey Lange is a debut author, and I hope We are the Brennans is only the beginning of the stories she has to tell.
