I really enjoyed the characters in this book. I loved this dysfunctional Irish family (maybe not the mom...) and how they stuck together through all their personal problems and conflicts with each other. My favorite character was Kale, who wasn't even a blood relation but was most definitely"family." Each of the characters is unique and suffering in their own way. No one is perfect, they put up defenses and argue, but they love and support one another. I thought this was a great multi-generational story that portrayed the complexities of the human spirit and the power of love and belonging. I'm not a fan of unresolved endings, however, and was a bit put off by the way the story ended. Although the author did a good job of creating characters that were not one-dimensional, in showing that life wasn't black and white, I felt there was a line that was crossed there, if I am correct in inferring what happened...
