Let’s just get this out of the way: I didn’t love We Are the Brennans. The writing, however, is quite good, and I have no doubt many readers will love the story.

I was looking forward to an emotionally complex story of secrets, lies, and family dynamics. What I got was a lot of melodrama surrounding a (sort of) romance, with a predictable plot and characters I mostly disliked.

The love story was marred by deceit on the part of both characters. When we get to the big reveal concerning Sunday's departure, her reasoning for leaving everyone is a stretch, at best.

I can’t elaborate on why I feel this way because of spoilers.

On a positive note, the story’s execution is handled well and it’s an easy read. All the family members have POV narrating parts that rotate throughout. Numerous narrators can be difficult to pull off, but here the transitions are seamless.
