As the title indicates, this is a story about the Brennan family. It’s about their shifting dynamics, as well as their faithful and enduring familial bonds when Sunday Brennan returns to New York after hastily leaving her family and fiance for Los Angeles five years prior. Her return triggers a host of changes for the Brennan family and some forced answers to Sunday's previous departure.

While Sunday’s return launches the book, it really touches on the lives of every family member, as well as “adopted” son and former fiance, Kale. Each person is connected to Sunday, but they also have their own stories that intertwine. I found them all fascinating. I really enjoyed the writing style and characterizations. It was messy with all the brokenness and healing that families go through. There was one element that nearly became over-the-top, but the author brought that plot line full circle with the bits of history surrounding the Brennan patriarch’s emigration from Ireland.

The balance between intense, heartwarming, heartbreaking, and loyalty was thoughtfully done with insight and skill. I’m hoping this author has more writing like this in the future for her readers.
