We are the Brennans appears to be a story about a family with its own myriad set of issues and the classic prodigal child. It's not an entirely original plot but it has great possibility. The writing style is easy and enjoyable. I immediately began forming pictures in my head of what I was reading. It's great when an author can do that. I found that right away I bonded with Sunday. Of the three kids in my family, I was the responsible one but also the one who dreamt of flying away as soon as possible. And I did do just that, like Sunday. I'm interested to learn more about Sunday and her motivations for leaving home and ending a long relationship. The First Look doesn't imply that there's any sort of abuse or mistreatment that would have led to Sunday leaving for the West Coast. So why the change? Why the stubborn refusal to move back home? I'm also interested to learn about this loan between Denny and Billy - is Billy a kind of loan shark? Or is there a more personal element involved? And why is Theresa separating herself from Denny? Denny's stress with his father's health and the family's business sounds like the kind of situation where a wife should be more involved and supportive than ever. So again - why? Lots of unanswered questions. I'm anxious to read more about this family and visit their world.
