Lisa Jewell proves in Watching You that she has it on lock when it comes to writing perfectly paced stories with details and clues doled out at just the right times. There are surprises, but readers can look back and realize that Jewell laid the foundation for them perfectly.
The story is told from three different perspectives (plus a few excerpts from interviews), and it works well to get the story from these different sides. Being somewhat deliberately vague (as I don't want to spoil the story), the three perspectives shows different sides of one central character, making readers wonder how this story can possibly end well. Joey is the most essential voice of the three, and her floundering as she tries to decide what she wants out of her life and how to go forward makes her confusion about other characters and how to proceed seem very true to her age and life.
This book is one you'll want to gobble up to find out what's going to happen.
