This book does a lot of character building and backstory mixed in with the present events in the story. It starts off with the movements of a detective on a murder scene who finds some possibly critical evidence. The book continues to introduce multiple characters from one area in Bristol. Joey and Alfie just moved in with Joey's brother and his expecting wife. Tom and his wife and son live two doors down. The story of what happens unfolds from all perspectives and it all comes together nicely. Questions are answered and it is a well-planned story. I loved that in between some of the chapters were transcriptions of the police interviews with each of the characters that give a glimpse into what happened. I enjoyed it very much and I think it was very well-done.
