The prologue of Then She Was Gone sets this story up very quickly - someone has been stabbed to death, and there is a small clue lying in the blood.
Joey has recently been married, after a months long crush, but now that she has her crush firmly in her life, she is bored. That is, she is bored until she sees her older, attractive neighbor, Tom. She wonders about him, and what it would be like to be with him, and this is only after a few months of being a newlywed!
Joey is being questioned by the police, but early on, you don't know if she is guilty or innocent.
There is tension in Joey's home, as she and her husband are living with Joey's brother and his wife, Rebecca, who is stony and not at all personable. I am sure there is an equally tense story line about the dynamics at home.
Lisa Jewell dangles enough information in the first few pages to intrigue you. She sets up the relationship with sexual tension, and a 20+ year age difference. There is definitely sexual attraction, which will lead to a dangerous result.
I can't wait to read this novel, I am already on the edge of my seat to read about the development of Joey and Tom's relationship and its stunning conclusion into the death, and who is guilty of murder, and why!
A taut thriller begging to be read!
