I follows Mila, who has recently graduated from high school and is about to age out of the foster care system. She decides to take a job as a school teacher up in California. She takes this job at a lovely farm owned by a couple who adopt children from foster care. Mila is excited for this fresh start and for this escape from her past. However, that is not at all what happens. It turns out the farm is haunted and the ghosts there remind Mila of her past. Mila is upset by this but doesn't want to leave the farm. She loves the people there, especially her student Lee. She wants to stay and help Lee and also become a part of the family. Will this happen for her? Read this amazing book to find out! I really loved this book and the only thing I didn't like about it was that it felt too short. I felt the story could've been longer. I really liked how the writing felt poetic at times. I got mysterious fall vibes from this book (and some serious Taylor Swift's folklore vibes as well lol).
