Not what I expected, but great read.
ErThank you Bookish First and Penguin Teen for allowing me to read an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
This story was well written and I finished it in one day. I loved the characters and their relationships with each other. When I finally learned what haunted Mila, I felt so bad for her and the choices her mother made. I would love to know why her grandparents didn't fight for her. I understand the relationship the grandparents had with the mom because of her choices, but she sounded like she really did try at first to give Mila a good life, until Blake. I'm not going to lie, I expected something much worse from Blake's character, but I understood Mila's point of view and why she loved Lee so much. I wish there was more background into the other characters, and what brought them to the farm. The ending was great, and I loved the author's note at the end about becoming the best versions of ourselves.
