Thank you Bookish First, author Nina Lacour and her publishing company for providing this book. I was very impressed by the First Impression excerpt so I was very excited to read this book. The story was less creepy and haunting that I thought it would be. Despite the lack of horror, there was still a little suspense and mystery to keep me interested. Once I started reading, I wanted to keep going to find Mila's secret. The story is really short but the character development was good. I wouldn't say this story blew my mind but there was a small twist.
Besides the story, there were also many details that I loved. The cover of the book was really nice. I assume the girl on the front is Mila but I also imagined her differently in my mind. Mila came off as more anxious and insecure than the girl on the cover's expression (which seems more mysterious and secretive). Because of this I think the cover art is slightly misleading. I also liked the way the story was structured. There were blank spaces where the story skips time or fast forwards. Sometimes there will only be a few sentences on one page and I like the buffer because it creates emphasis. The parts where it was a flashback had slightly darker font so I was never confused about what point in time the story was in. I haven't seen another book that was styled like this and I really like it!
