I won an early finished copy of Watch Over Me from BookishFirst, so that I could share my review with you!

Mila left her old life behind to move to an isolated farm on the Northern California Coast, but she didn’t expect the challenges that would follow her there. After aging out of the foster care system, Mila didn’t have many options for places to stay, so she immediately agreed when she was offered a job working on the remote farm. Once she arrives at this unfamiliar land of cold waves and pale flowers, Mila begins to hope that she may have finally found a home. But, all is not as it seems on at the farm. Each of the residents came to this place with trauma and scarred histories: ghosts that refuse to release them. The longer Mila stays at the farm, the more difficult it becomes to hold her own memories at bay.

You can get your copy of Watch Over Me on September 15th from Dutton Books for Young Readers!

As someone who is always on the hunt for powerful works about folks in the LGBTQ+ community, I was delighted by Watch Over Me. The writing was simply captivating in a way that allowed me to tear through this book with great speed. This book is a ghost story, unlike any other I’ve read, due to its exploration of trauma and escape. I know for a fact that Watch Over Me will stay in my mind for many years.

My Recommendation-
If you’re a fan of eerie books dealing with hard-hitting emotional topics, you will definitely want to read Watch Over Me! This book is a departure from LaCour’s earlier work in some senses, but its depth and intensity are as strong as ever. If you enjoyed We Are Okay, you won’t want to miss Watch Over Me!
