3.5/5 stars.
This was my first read by Nina LaCour and wow. Just wow. The cover is what initally drew me in and the writing definitely did not disappoint at all.
This was a beautifulyl told rural contemporary fantasy with ghost thrown into the mix that sounds like it shouldn't work but it absolutely does.
The delicacy and care that Nina gave in portraying the trauma, Mina gaining that found family, it really made me feel something and I keep saying it's beautiful but it turly is.
A line that really stuck out to me was 'I wished they could know how difficult it was. How near to impossible. Wished I could hand them my memories, intact, so they could see the earrings and the shells and the ways thst I had been tricked.'
I think there could've been more at the end but it was just such a good story to read.
