This book is beautifully written. That said, I found it very, very, very depressing. I loved the main character and found her totally sympathetic. I loved the idea of the farm and the initial description blew me away - by the ocean in California, less than an hour from Mendocino, a flower tunnel to grow exceptional flowers (as well as fruit and vegetables) - it sounded like paradise. But then the farm part sort of fell away - I would have liked much more about the farm in the story. I wanted to like the owners of the farm, but they were written to be ambivalent characters - we don't know until the end if they are good or bad people (and even then it's debatable). Maybe I would have felt differently if I hadn't read this book during a pandemic, but I found it incredibly depressing - and needlessly so. Conceived just a little differently, the ending could have been uplifting.
